Making a Town Plan for Newcastle 2020.
It has always been an intention of the Forum, to produce our version of what a Town Plan for Newcastle might look like. In June 2008, we identified the problems of Newcastle. It is now time to go to the next stage of the work – which is to identify the opportunities and to frame a set of policies, and recommendations, which could guide future sustainable development of the town.
We want to have the widest possible participation of Newcastle people in this project. We invite you to join us, as and when you can, and give your views.
OUR STRENGTHS AND LIMITATIONS
We CAN demonstrate that local people have a range of knowledge and experience which is vital to any sustainable Plan making.
Nobody knows more about any town than the people who live in it. Officials forget this.
We CAN produce a package of ideas and recommendations for our town ,which a future statutory plan must incorporate.
We CANNOT produce a full official Plan. That would need many Technical Studies to be done and it would need to be adopted by an elected body. (Our new Council will not be in place for a few years yet.)
